Kings/Tulare Area Agency on Aging
Kings/Tulare Area Agency on Aging is the leading local authority and advocate for issues and concerns facing adults as they age. K/T AAA coordinates a wide range of community-based services to address needs that develop with aging. The K/T AAA primarily serves seniors age 60 and over, and their families and caregivers. The K/T AAA is the only public or private organization in the area that combines so many services for older adults under one umbrella—and mostly at no charge to county residents who use the services. We provide a wide range of services, including information and access, advocacy, coordination, assessment, and authorization of direct services. Some services are provided through contracts with vendors and other agencies, and include in-home support, respite care, meals (senior dining centers and home-delivered), health promotions, legal assistance, adult day care, transportation, educational opportunities, employment, and counseling programs. The primary funding for the K/T AAA is provided by the Older Americans Act and Older Californians Act, via the California Department of Aging. Contributions from local governments, private donations, and various senior-related grants comprise the balance of K/T AAA funding. In Home Support Services – IHHS
The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program a division of California Department of Social Services provides in-home assistance to eligible aged, blind, and disabled individuals as an alternative to out-of-home care and enables recipients to remain safely in their own homes.
CARE/FERA – California Alternative Rates for Energy
The California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program offers discounts to eligible residents, providing a 30-35% reduction on your electric bill and a 20% discount on your natural gas bill. According to Public Utilities Code Section 7391, electric companies with 100,000 or more customer accounts in California are qualified to provide a discount.
At Central California Senior Housing’s Town Meadows property, we work closely with residents to gather information about eligibility and assist with the application process. We are dedicated to advocating for seniors who need additional support in organizing their information to ensure they can take full advantage of this beneficial program.
CSET Community Services and Employment Training – LIHEAP Assistance
Residents of Tulare County who are struggling to pay their home energy bills are encouraged to apply for financial assistance through CSET’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This program is designed to help low-income community members manage their heating and cooling needs. The goal of LIHEAP is to support those experiencing financial hardship, allowing them to catch up or stay current with their home energy bills and prevent disconnection of service by their utility company.
Qualified applicants can receive financial assistance once per program year for electricity, gas, or propane services. Eligibility for aid is determined by LIHEAP’s income guidelines, the size of the household, the cost of energy, and the availability of funds.
CalFresh Food for Seniors
The CalFresh mission is to increase food security and reduce hunger in partnership with cooperating organizations by providing children and low-income people access to food, a healthy diet and nutrition education in a manner that supports American agriculture and inspires public confidence.
The State of California offers state-funded food assistance through the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP) specifically for seniors. To be eligible, seniors must meet the criteria of being extremely low income to take advantage of available CalFresh benefits.
Social Security
The Social Security Administration’s mission is to provide services that adapt to the evolving needs of the public. It is common for the circumstances of a benefit recipient to change after they have applied for or become eligible for benefits. If you or a family member receives Social Security or Supplemental Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), certain life changes could impact your eligibility for an increase in federal benefits.
Housing Authority of Tulare County
The Housing Authority of Tulare County provides rental assistance to very low and moderate-income families, seniors and the handicapped throughout the county. We offer many different programs, including the conventional public housing program, the housing choice voucher program, senior housing programs, and other housing programs. We also own or manage some individual subsidized renal complexes that do not fall under the previous categories, and we have information about other affordable housing that is available in Tulare County.
All programs are handicap accessible. Reasonable accommodations may be requested from our staff, and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
